Choosing the correct swivel requires the contractor to consider several factors. The OD of the pipe being pulled (and the OD of the hole it is being pulled into), the maximum expected pull force for the project and the maximum pull force of the rig.
It is not always possible to use a swivel rated to the maximum pull force of the drill rig. For example, if you are pulling a small OD electrical line with a maxi-rig, the OD of the swivel maybe too large for the size of the hole. Also, when pulling smaller sized HDPE pipes, keep in mind that the turning forces to move the swivel maybe large which may result in a small HDPE pipe twisting when being pulled with a large swivel because the resistance of the pipe is not large enough to allow the swivel to turn in place of the pipe.
Kampen Machinefabriek Velsen offer all sizes of swivel for all applications, as well as in house servicing capabilities for customers’ own swivels.
We can offer swivels from 10T to 550T and everything in between.
We can also retrofit your existing hole openers and reamers to incorporate a swivel and pulling eye directly into the opener shaft or body. This is a popular modification for smaller projects which require the product pipe to be pulled at the same time as the reaming operation.
